A Book Apart

Wow, it’s been a while since I’ve read a web design related book that wasn’t boring as hell. That’s changed now with A Book Apart.

A Book Apart is a small publishing company that focus on brief books for people who make websites. The books cover emerging topics in web design and development. The content is short and to the point often including helpful illustrations that look great.

So far I’ve read HTML5 for web designers and CSS3 for web designers. Both books were less than 100 pages and helped me understand a range of different topics far better than anything I have come across on the web so far. They don’t waste any time getting to the goods.

Welcome to the new site, finally.

It’s been a work in progress for the last 4 months and finally it’s here. When I started the re-design all I knew was that I wanted to start blogging.

The first design i mocked up never really felt right. After finishing the initial mockups I decided to start coding it so I could see how it looked and felt in the browser. Like I thought, it wasn’t right.

I scrapped the design and started over from the beginning. Slowly but surely the design started coming together. The minimalist look I wanted fell into place and I began folding in small aspects of the previous deign that I liked.

Over the past couple days I haven’t been able to pull myself away from working on the new site – I love when this happens.

It’s a new beginning and I really hope to starting using this website for more than just a portal to showcase my portfolio.
